Finally pulled the trigger on the Unichip. I now have Carplay using the OEM monitor. Looks completely stock, but I also have the mirroring capability, which allows me to access any app on the iPhone and view it on the COMAND screen.

UPDATE: Correction, it was actually a smartbox by a company called icartisan. It was promising, but we could never get it to work correctly and the company provided little-to-no support nor did they provide any firmware updates. Their smartbox caused the reverse camera to either blank out the screen (in normal mode) or freeze screen at the Carplay homescreen (when Carplay engaged) when shifter was in Reverse mode.

When the turn signals were used, the screen would either flicker or freeze, depending on whether or not Carplay was engaged. This was not acceptable. My installer insists the dipswitches were properly set, though I never saw for myself, but we decided to try Unichip instead. However, he had no luck getting a response from them, then he suggested we try Navtool. I reluctantly said ok, but decided to try and contact Unichip myself. Oddly, I couldn't find any listings on fleabay, amazon, nor ali-express. However, I did find this wireless Carplay smartbox by another Chinese brand called Joyeauto. I paid much less than what the Navtool box was priced at and I was getting WIRELESS Carplay, so I ordered it and quickly called my installer to cancel the Navtool order. Even after paying for Express delivery by DHL, I still came out well below the Navtool price and DHL delivered a few days earlier than expected!

Here's the Joyeauto product unboxed, then a view of the output to my OEM monitor. I'm connected wirelessly, but I'll use the cable to keep the phone charged up.

Between Navtool, Unichip, iCartisan & Joyeauto, only iCartisan had a mirroring functionality which would have been great if not for the latency between video & audio. In the end it really doesn't matter. If I want to watch a movie or video, I don't want to watch it on a tiny screen...

BTW, the wireless Carplay has been working beautifully. There hasn't been much written up about the Joyeauto unit, but I did notice some complaints about wireless connectivity. I have an old iphone 6S, my installer had an 8 and we tested a 10 as well. All connected without any issues.

where does the small conversion box fit behind the screen, like i sit scewd down there?
I'm not sure where my installer mounted it, but I've seen some mounted below the glove compartment. I think mine is mounted behind the HU, as I don't see anything under or in the glove compartment.

I know he did have to mod the box a bit to get it to fit.

What was the cost of the Joyeauto product? Thanks

I got it for less than 350 USD shipped, but I think it may be higher now.

How do you select/navigate/Siri?

Thanks
Scroll wheel, voice for Siri. I don’t miss the touchscreen, as my arms are not long enough. Scroll wheel is very comfortable, from a reach perspective.
