My car runs well, although it surges while cruising and dies when I come to a stop unless I engage the choke a bit at first, then it idles beautifully. I have rebuilt the carburetor, which is to say it is relatively done well. It is getting between 17 and 20 MPG. I would like it to run a bit smoother, not die when coming to a stop and get a bit better fuel economy. Has anyone looked into an aftermarket carburetor or should I pay a professional to rebuild mine. Is there any way to squeeze a bit more fuel economy out of the car? I know when new, they only got about 20mpg.
