I have an '04 G55 and I want to do a carbon overlay to the wood trim pieces. Has anyone had luck with doing this? I went down to Brabus in Orange County and they pretty much don't do anything there and weren't very helpful. Everything gets sent to Germany. I'm sure someone here can do it. Any suggestions? One of the engineers in the office thinks I should do it myself (with his help of course. he's a techy porche guy).

I'm also going to suede the headliner and door panels black. With the new headliner I'm going to stain the gray plastic parts black. Has anyone done that or have a reference for doing it? Again Brabus would ship the parts to Germany.

Any pics or advice would be great.

Thanks,

There are several pics around of the new G55k with the black wood AMG likes. Looks OK, I like the normal wood better. I haven't seen carbon fiber. Kerr found a wood kit for his 02 - maybe the same supplier has carbon fiber??? Try searching for posts by Kerr w/ "wood".

Yea i used some cheap kit off e bay. it turned out ok for the most part.

I wanted carben too, but i could not find any at the time... I also felt to do it correctly you would have to change the center console and steering wheel too..

I bet that guy on tv can get them .... Will Castrol... his show is Unique whips.. They are always swapping the wood trim for custom color matched marble and carben fiber... Im sure it will not be cheap. Unique Autosports - Performance Car Sales - Parts & Tuning........ i know they have done a few G's... they have a blue on there web page that has the marble looking stuff but they made it blue... not my cup of tea but should work with CF...

As for the head liner, i would just do the headliner and trim, skip the doors.. the suied doent hold that well to things that get touched a lot.. Any upholstery shop should be able to do the head liner.

I want to paint mine...Techtite. But the thing holding me back is the steering wheel. Is there a way to take it apart? (the wood grain pieces). The other piece being the dash "oh,no!" bar. Not sure how to pull that off either. Maybe just clips hold it on??

yes you can paint the trim... my supra we painted it all body color... only problem is with the G it might be to much... the reflections in the windows are bad anyway then you put more parts inside that reflect light....

As you where saying to paint the center you just have to remove it, suuff it up and paint... only problme is not scratching the paint after its on there...

If you click that picture it will make it bigger so you can see it better.
