I was just introduced to a new wax system by a friend who uses nothing else on his Shelby Cobra and Honda NSR. Both have finishes you swear you can reach into with your hand! He says Zaino 2 and 5 are the only way to go. I have been converted and am now a believer. I have tried them all on my black SL. Nothing has ever done a better job on my 18 year old paint!

I searched for keyword "Zaino" and got many hits, but none in the R129 forum. I don't have any financial interest in this company. I just know my R129 bothers and sisters consider the look of their cars right up there with the performance. You can only order the stuff on line. It is expensive, but you use very little per application. There are all sorts of great qualities to this product, but I am not going to bore you here. Go to zianostore.com and take a look.

i use it RELIGIOUSLY! Its is super amazing. Look in the detailing section of the benzworld site u will find loads of info in it. Between the Car Wash soap, the polish, the quick wipe and my favorite the Grand Finale spray they came out with. It takes depth and shine to whole new levels. Most people cant believe how old the car is when they look at my car. Even when its dirty it looks clean and shiny! Does a great job with fine scratches as well. I find that i do 4 coats every 4 or so months to keep it looking best.

I find that its not really that expensive. For what it is and does its quite a good deal!

Zaino isn't a wax, it's a protecant. Several folks on the corvette forum use it but a lot of talk about too many steps in the process. Can't see wasting half a day doing it. I just use blue Dawn dish soap and wax with NXT 2.0 and get the same result in 1/4 of the time

I've also had great luck with Meguiar's NXT 2.0 If I'm not mistakin' you use the Dawn dish soap to remove all of the dirt and old wax but what about surface contaminants that need a Clay Bar Kit? - Video

Interesting guys.

Off to Canadian Tire to pick up some Meguiar's NXT 2.0 (if they have it) and give it a shot myself. My R129 is looking pretty depressed these days :p Might appreciate the face lift.

I've heard of Zaino, and mostly seen the results on... yep... a Corvette. Looks awesome and heard good things about it. Is it really that complicated to use?

Clay is a very important step in the process. And yes there are many steps but I dont mind that. Its well worth the work. If u like spending up to 2 days washing and polishing your car for an unreal shine that lasts this is the way to go for me. My wife and my neighbors think i am nuts. But when they see the car they see y i do it. Labor of love. For both my cars.

If not well just keep on keppin on with your system.

I will dig up some better pics.

No, Zaino is not complicated at all to use. The trick to getting it right is giving it enough drying time. If you rush it, you just push the stuff around on your car. Some guys (not me) actually let it dry over night and rub it out the next day. I give it 1 to 2 hours. Yes, removing the old wax and giving it a good clay rub is the best way to start, but after that things get easier. Zaino does not yellow. Each additional coat gives your car shine more depth and quality. Using the Zaino car wash leaves the previous Zaino coats on and just removes surface dirt.

The Shelby Cobra I talked about in my original post is fiberglass and has custom paint. My 18 year old SL has factory original, swirl marked paint. After 4 coats of Zaino, they both look liked concourse cars.

Roadking, when you talk about the long drying times, are you using their ZFX "Flash Cure Accelerator Additive" ?

I started reading up on Zaino after reading this thread, and from their descriptions it sounds like I could do repeated applications without any waiting. That shouldn't take any longer that it would with any other brand.

My fellow Canadians can go to Zaino Store Canada Zaino Store to buy their products

I'm also curious about the Meguire product mentioned in this thread, because I can just get it at a local store, instead of having it delivered.

Last week I have done three cars, My Lexus and 1992 Sl and Fiorano's car SL1998.

The process was as follow:
Wash the car with Meguiar's car wash shampoo
Quick detailer + Clay (medium)
Waxing: Meguiar's NXT 2.0
Final touch with the Synthetic Sealant
And the result was..........unbelievable, 80% of the fine scratches are gone, silky and shiny surface and the best part: amazing reflection (although the both SL’s are white).
The whole process should not take more than two hours for each car (depend on your speed)
This treatment should last for atleast four months especially with the hot and humid weather here in Dubai.

Are you guys doing this by hand or using a buffer? I actually have a buffer but have lacked the courage to use it. I saw a car once that was buffed by someone who lacked experienc. Been afraid ever since.

I haven't clayed any of my vehicles yet, I'd like to this spring. May give it a test spin on my wife's motorcycle. I'm a fan of less effort is better, NXT is a pretty simple process. When I put it on, I use a spray bottle with water in it to mist the area I'm applying wax to, have you tried this or is it common? I found it makes the application easier and an even spread.

Wow, very nice looking pics! I am fighting slight marring after my finishing polish wipe. They go in the direction of the wipe, this soft MB paint is difficult but great looking when it's done.

Lenny, depends on your buffer. If you have a rotary it can burn through the paint and cause some real problems if you arent careful. But a Dual Action is great, it jiggles and rotates so it reduces the heat produced in the polishing stages. It is very difficult to burn through with one of those, not impossible just difficult.

I was amazed when I started using the dual action, it would be very difficult to produce the same results by hand and you would look like Popeye when you get done. I also had a water spot that wouldn't come out except with the DA.

A lot of the process that looks bad is not doing a multi stage approach, if you do that, with patience it should turn out like djblu's pics. But it will take a couple days if not longer. I do a four stage process and it takes some time for the sealant to set before I do a second application so it is now a four day process.

Here are some before and afters. 50/50 is just after the claying and first cutting polish step. The hood before just after claying and after pic of the hood is following the four step process reflecting my light with the synthetic M21 sealant instead of a wax.

As far as waxes? I use a synthetic sealant, Meguiars M21. No harm to palm trees collecting the carnauba wax from Brazil that way. Or if you prefer you can add a carnauba wax over the synthetic. The wax will last a month or so and then the synthetic can provide a few more months of protection if you don't get back to it.
