Is an Automatic car wash bad for the hood star? I went to one today & after the result.. the star was out of place.. I just straightened it back up which seems to be no problems but over time would it snap?

It "should" be OK as long as no hard objects or objects with force hit or touch it. If only the cloth touches it and slightly moves it out of place then thats no big deal, just straighten it up by hand, no harm done. Just keep an eye out when you go threw it next time and just make sure nothing with force touches it.

I'm more concerned with the antenna cover on my roof (2000) coming off or getting bent... my car has only seen one car wash since I have owned it... and it was a touchless one.

Of course there is going to be force. The cloths do touch it.

I like the touchless ones but those are way over priced. $11 for a car wash. Get out of here when I can get one for $5 on the reg touch wash.

Like I said in my first post "If only the cloth touches it and slightly moves it out of place then that's no big deal, just straighten it up by hand, no harm done."

Now, if the dryers that dry along the car hit it, you will then have a problem.
(This depends on the carwash place though) Some almost "roll" along your car which are a peice of crap! and then there's the ones with the huge blow dryers, which are MUCH better.

Might not be bad for the star, but is bad for the paint. Wash your car yourself. I have a friend that works at "good" car wash and they are nothing but tunnels of hell after all the horror stories I have heard.

I agree that no car wash is really doing your paint any favors. There is a small eco-friendly chain in Portland, OR that expounds the superiority of their service, but my own eyes tell me otherwise. I tried them once but after seeing how there is only a small amount of water sprayed before the cloth sheet-type things were dragged over the car I knew they were also dragging all the sediment that the spray surely didn't remove.
Back on topic as to the hood star, always check after an automated car wash (if you must use one) to see if the star being pushed against your hood caused any damage to the paint, most places are liable for damage done if it's not aftermarket equipment.

Screw the $20 hood star, you need to be more worried about taking off a $400 mirrors. Cheap fix, but a pain in the ass to do. Believe me, I broke both of them in 1 winter and it wasn't even a hard smack.
