My 1999 E320 developed this symptom, that the car vibrates badly on reverse, but not on other gears. However, after 30 minutes drive, it does not do that any more.

Motor mount?

Thanks in advance.

Motor mounts, but likely transmission mount as well.

I replied and then thought of the many parts of the driveline ...

- Motor mounts
- Transmission mount
- Flex discs (not so likely in this case, but possible)
- Center bearing/support
- Differential mounts
- Rear suspension links

A thorough inspection of the driveline is really needed.

Ok, I feel better now.

If you haven't changed the motor mounts before, that's exactly where I would start. And if you haven't done the plugs yet, that's an ideal time to do them. Toss in the T-mount just to be safe and you've got a relaxed day of DIY time and probably close to a cool grand in your pocket in savings. ;)

While you're under doing the T-mount, do check the flex discs and the center carrier. If the discs are in need of replacement, then order the parts, including the center carrier, dust boot and bearing, and then plan a half-day to do that.

Good luck.

Motor mounts and transmission mounts are replaced. Very smooth ride now.
It appears that the transmission mount was still in good shape.
Thanks for all the inputs.
