If VIN is within range either speaker with service manager to request MB goodwill repair on your behalf or speak with MB CAC direct 800-367-6372 referencing bulletin, arguing defective part was installed at production.

Hello Peeps,

My 2010 E350 has started doing this. After a trawl of the internet, found this thread and read through the bulletin. Thanks "konigstiger"
I dropped the car in with the dealer and mentioned the Bulletin quoting the "LI" number to them but after a diagnosis which showed no faults the dealer suggested that "Maybe" it was the ISM module.
So I changed had it out at a private Mercedes specialist (A Lot Cheaper), had the new unit coded to the car and low and behold no better off !!
There is no warning as to when or where this fault is going to show up and I've had a few TERRIFYING journeys in the car with a few near spectaular incidents !!
Phoned the dealer last week and they now wants the car back for a further diagnosis, at my own cost again.

Today I plugged a diagnostic machine in to the car myself and ran through the tests indicated in the bulletin.
"EZS Module" => "LIVE TESTS" => "DRIVE AUTHORISATION" with the car running and all auxiliary equipment turned off. i.e. (Air Con, Media, Lights)
The car recognised the key initially, but as I turned on the equipment the "Key Recognised" went from "YES to "NO" and back to "YES" when I switched the equipment off.
Exactly what the bulletin tells you.

My chew is with the dealers misdiagnosis and cost of replacing parts that aren't faulty, along with another diagnosis from them at my cost.
Thoughts on how to approch this issue with the dealer would be helpful.
I know the car is out of warranty but do you think Mercedes will honour some sort of goodwill on this?

Thanks "Iron Chance"

P.S. Top Job "Konigstiger" for the bulletin.

Argue defective electronic ignition switch was installed at production. Include capture of drive authorization test result if possible and copy of bulletin to support goodwill repair request. No guarantee MBUK will cover cost of wrong part replacement due to dealer misdiagnose since it was your decision to replace it through independent MBUK can counter independent should have diagnosed before replacing. MBUK should cover initial MB dealer diagnostic cost, second guided test, and ignition switch replacement.

konigstiger,

Thanks for that, I did contact MBUK last week over this and am waiting for their reply.
Lets hope I get some positive results. Will keep the thread notified of outcome.
Judging by the thread views it seems to be quite common !!

Cheers

I wish mercedes would eliminate that door open throw it into park and risk damage to the trans great suck feature. I rented a GLA for three weeks which had the aggravating feature. I wear a seat belt, i’m not going to fall out of the car if I need to open the door to properly align myself in a parking space!!!

See attached bulletin.
The same problem I had was a skillful technician disassembling the ignition switch and soldering the cracked contacts. First experience after a long test drive eliminated the problem. I didn't have to replace the ignition switch and keys!

Correct, its EIS component problem, Unfortunately here in North Europe MB does not have warranty for that issue... I am jealous for you guys in US to have much better customer care than we Europeans. (same applies in SBC brake issues of W211 etc models)

Zoran, I'm not a mechanic, but I've been reading. This problem can occur if, for example, the system detects that the door is open to prevent the car rolling, or if the soldering iron in the ignition switch is cracked or the diode malfunctions and momentarily the contact / communication between the key and the key pad is interrupted, so when you slow down below 5-6 km / h, the system automatically puts the gear into P. MB Service then replaces the ignition switch with new keys, re-teaching them. Hungarian technician will remove the switch (look for it on youtube) and disassemble it, then look at the magnifying glass where the crack is, solder it again.
