I have a 1990 300sl with about 35K miles. Sometimes the car will crank and crank but not start. Alway when it does this, it is when the buzzing alarm is NOT sounding (when ignition switch hits position 1 and 2). Always when the buzzing alarm sounds the car will start? What is causing the buzzing alarm not to engage and therefore not let the car start (but it will crank)??? Any help will be appreciated

The switch module is your problem. It's conected to the back of your switch in the dash. Contacts in it isn't making all the time. My 500 was doing the same thing. I took it apart and bent the contacts a little and problem solved. I'll bet after you tried a few time's it finally started. The next time you try to start your car switch the key off and on until you hear the buzzer and then try to start it.
