I have searched the Forum for some W126 presentation thread without results (beside the Photo Gallery thread and some nice presentation of some stunning cars).

It is strange to me that there is no general car presentation topic (like in the other Forums) so I decided to make one new.

I invite you all to post a presentation of your cars here, a brief history and your plans with the cars for the future!

Allow me to start:

1991 500SE

I have the car since March 2007, from Italy where it was used by a big Italian company as a CEO protocol car. From 2004 it was the personal car of one of the company`s retired boss.
The back seats of the car are like brand new. It was all original, not modified whatsoever. (between the last ones in production of this type-500SE). An absolute elegant, powerfull and long trip`s car. (I have made some very long cross country trips with it). Beside a fuse from the AC unit I had no mechanical problems with the car.
Sadly, I have meet some black ice on the road and I have crush the car - I flipped it over in the roadside ditch only at 5 kms from my home. ( Roof and pillars colapsed, windshield / rear window and driver side window smashed, although everithing else is working properly engine and electrics too )
Currently the car is waiting to be repaired. (a full transplant, because I do not drive any major crush-repaired car)

Model 500 SE

It has only 223000 kms.

1985 280SE

My dailly driver. And my trips car too (I was in a few of my last 2 years trips with this car in european road trips) Today, 30`th November are 2 years since I have it!
290000 kms (30000 kms with me). Authorithies car in West Germany, with some special features like sirens and telephone center (removed by the prewious owners) and a 14 speaker BLAUPUNKT sound system (no one knows about it even in the German Forum)... After it was sold by the German government, it had a hard life with some bad owners. I manage to save the car and bring it back to life. The interior is the same as that from the 500SE (I have swapped in the seats from that car, the original ones waiting to be redone). Still more to do: refurbish those PENTAs and a full repaint of the car.

1983 280SE

Parts car. Only 195000 kms on the clock. The body of the car is in almost perfect condition. No rear axel (diff) and engine... It has a near perfect brown fabric interior, a perfect dash and steering wheel. SLS...The gearbox was transplanted this summer to my 280SE. Maybe it will be the body for my 500SE.
It was a great car when it was released from the factory...Nice colour too...

My w126 300SE -90

Allow me to present my 300SE; rather a convienient opportunity due to following reason :):

500 000 km I.jpg

This happened a couple of weeks back, have added few hundred kms since then because this is my daily driver. I was told that the previous owner used to drive from Sweden to Spain every winter, which explains the high mileage. He kept this vehicle up quite meticulously (I have a thick folder containing even the insurance papers as well as occational parking ticket...and of course full service history). Bought the car last year, have driven appr. 20 000 km, not all trouble-free kms, but fairly small (and the usual) issues thus far (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, FPR, fuel pump...) ! "500 000 km service" included new lower ball joint to drivers side, new brake pads, new headlight wipers :) and oil/filter change (I use Gastrol Magnatec). Upcoming jobs are brake rotor change in front, fixing the non-functioning ASD, rheostat should also be changed / jumped and few other minor things which do not however interfere with my daily use that much...except that I have discovered a small oil leak from the head gasket even though a major service to the engine was done at 430 000 km. Fortunately the coolant is still only coolant, no oil in it yet !

Driving nearly every day in every condition in summer / winter is however bound to leave some marks :(:

500 000 km IV.jpg

Both fenders look almost the same, the chrome has also suffered (and the rims). There are a couple more rust spots, which I should take care soon enough, although I fear that a full repaint will be necessary after adressing those and changing the fenders...

Still, I like the car very much, it runs quite nicely; even though it creaks a little bit from the front in winter, does not heat properly (even after changing the monovalve).

500 000 km.jpg

500 000 km_II.jpg

500 000 km III.jpg

Inside: cloth seats, no heating, manual adjustment, in very decent condition. Stock leather steering wheel replaced due to excess wear / few rips, will probably buy a used good one to replace the current wooden one. ACC works fine, the compressor has been changed once.

500 000 km V.jpg

500 000 km VI.jpg

Lastly, a cell phone picture from last summer showing the Rial rims:

500 000 km VII.jpg

Hoping to have many, many more kms with this one !!!

Seppo - Nice 300, good to see one with high miles and still going strong. Mine has 100k (miles) on the clock. Got the same cloth seats as yours, in fact I need a new bench for the rear as mine is ripped a bit but they seem hard to find in that colour.

What's that heater doing in the footwell? Does it plug in somewhere or do you run an extension from your house to warm thing up on a cold winter morning?

Yes - the heater (option to heat at either 600W or 1200W) is plugged into a socket attached to the side of the footwell cover, the electrical wire from it is in turn attached to the engine heater. There is a plug beside the front licence plate from which I can get the electricity at garage. The system is quite essential here in winter. I drove the car last winter at -32°C, kept the heaters on all night...still, you could here the engine groan a little bit when starting...

I happened to stumble on a used rear bench in this website, not in 100 % condition but perhaps the right color...?:

Thanks for the link. I had a look but you can see from the second photo that it also has a few small holes. Thanks anyway though.

That's interesting about plugging the car in. I've heard that sort of thing before in Canada and other cold places.

Wonderful photos, as are all your road trip pictures also, thanks for those ! Would also love to make long car trips to Central Europe with my car, instead of always flying there and having to drive boring rental cars (although I doubt that the wife & kids would dare to come along since having to tow the car last year a couple of times due to bad cap / rotor / plug wires / FPR issues :) )

After a very long time I have the headlamp wiper/washer arms...A friend of mine sent them right from Sweden. :) I`m happy with them...just they do not have that plastic cap that covers the screws...I have sanded them and I have paint them with chrome paint (just a test to see how they will look...finally I think I will paint them black).

Since my first posts I have sold the W123 280E to someone who can restore it and right now the car is taken to pieces in full restoration. It will be nice when is finished. Just that the new owner want to change the car`s color to black...

Those caps (and wheels) are from my `91 500SE, but they are the chrome trim edge version, 15 inch (the Gen I had the 14 inch with no chrome edge caps and also they were Gen II 15 inch caps without the chrome trim)... I do use the steel wheels due to the reason that I`m going many times on bad surface roads (sometimes almost off-road conditions) and does not worth to damage the AMG Pentas...

L.E. : The strange thing is that I cannot find any spare or replacement 15 inch steel wheels (ET 25) for my W126. I`m looking to buy a new set (least 4 of them) to not have to be necesary anymore to change the tires in summer/winter...

I can find any types of alloy wheels but no steel wheels are available anymore... :(

I would like to thank our Romanian brother for this idea, it's in the spirit of 19th century introductions between Gentlemen. As for Seppo, I was just in Finland and Sweden and loved both countries, specially the 21 yr old girl in the ferry ride. Oh Seppo when I return to Helsinki I will buy you lunch at the big coffee shop on the Promenade.

Well I'm glad you liked the trip

To take you up on the offer, I would need to drive 600 km to Helsinki...which would of course be a piece of cake (and great joy !) with the w126 :D !

On the coming Sunday, we will start on a ~7000 km, 11-day round trip to Central Europe driving as south as Vienna; not on my w126 though :crybaby2: (there are six of us going so we need to use my wife's Honda FR-V, a reasonably OK car to drive but nothing more...I will one day however take my car back to its origins on another round trip :))

Wow 7000km that's a long trip for Europe. That will be a great trip. I want to ship my SEL or SEC there and do the same. Or borrow a SDL. I would go crazy in a Honda for 3 weeks.
