Hi all,

My 130,000 mile full merc history sprinter is a little shabby but so far mechanically superb. Today after quite a hard run in the rain, I can't get into 1st or 2nd gears and struggle to get 3rd or 4th. Reverse goes in with a bit of a bang!

To be honest the box has seemed notchy since I got it (i am second owner and have done 5,000 fully laden and towing incident free miles).

I did have quite a hard bump across a railway level crossing just before it happened - could I have thrown something out in the linkage, or does it sound like gearbox/clutch trouble?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey man,
this is just a stab in the dark but..i too have a 313cdi and my gearbox has also been a little funny ...
A mechanic told me that the cables connecting the gearbox linkage need to be replaced ,not a big job ..just fiddley
so maybe when you got that bang, something happened to the cables..?
im not sure but just a thought
