I just ask the same question on my thread actually.

I'm interested, you definitely can convert it. It's just finding the right parts.

I went to my mechanic (Mercedes specialist) he told me it's not a problem to use a early model tranny in a late model car.

I thought this was a little too easy.

So I went to my Mercedes-Benz dealer. Apparently it's not so easy.

He told me the Engine, ECU, and Transmissions are completely different. He also told me the dealer ship would never think about attempting such a thing.

I was disappointed but glad I was informed before I bought the standard transmission parts.

If anyone knows different please write about it. I'm interested in getting to the bottom of this.

Cheers

Your dealer . . . hmm, what to say, what to say . . . is wrong. ;)

The ECU in a W201 doesn't care what transmission is in the car; ask him if knows of a different part number for manual trans W201s.

The engines are all the same.

The transmissions are different . . . yes, one is manual and one is automatic. Beyond that, they bolt up quite nicely.

A dealer would never do such a thing is correct. Just like they would never use a non-Mercedes approved part during service. However, these conversions have been done in owner's garages for decades.

In a few months I'll have 2.6L manual transmission parts for sale since I am doing an engine/tranny swap.
