I pick up my 350 in two days and while cleaning up the garage in preparation it occured to me I should have gone for the folding mirrors option. Space is at a bit of a premium and having the mirrors fold automatically would make a lot of sense.

Does anyone know if the parts can be purchased as spares and fitted by the dealer or someone else?

Good question. I'd like this too (maybe one day).

The switch will of course first need to be fitted. This would probably require removing the whole area between the seats...

If the wirings all there, then it shouldn't be too hard. But if not, then you might end up having quite a job in your hands.

I belive it is possible but like Sihinigami said, it will involve buying parts to replace those that dont have the needed function. I have seen it done on a C320 and on an SL500, so it should not be too hard to do.

Can be fitted to any car.

- folding right frame
- folding left frame
- mirror cables harness x 2
- door controller left and right
- folding mirror switch

Now you need to specifiy whether the car has memory seats or dimming glass. As this affects ordering of the frames. Doot controllers (may not be replaced) only need to be replaced if the car is low spec but then usually only on the passenger side in most cases. The wiring harness is only needed if you have the low spec mirror cabling or if the old mirror frame isnt joined with a connector.

Installation is very simple and does not require any programming activation.

You will in some cases need to strip down the door trim.

Hi miroj

That's good to know. Do you know whether the mirrors can fold-in when the car door locks? I know that in the S and E class, when you press the remote to lock the doors, the mirrors do fold if this fold-in mirror option is there

Thanks in advance

Thanks for all the info miroj. Very much appreciated.

I asked my dealer and they said it would probably be hard to do, but when I questioned them further they indicated they didn't really know as they hadn't been asked before.

My 350 will have memory seats but not dimming mirrors. Do you know what the appropriate part numbers would be for this configuration?

I was a bit worried about having to activate these somehow. Since this is not the case, and if all the controller and harnesses are already in place, it looks like a job I think I could tackle.

If these do not have to be activated, how does the car know the folding mirrors are installed so it can automatically fold them when parked?

How much would it be for the option?

I wonder... maybe it would be worth it to have this option installed if something happens to your original side mirrors (like if a car rips them off or something... or vandalism).

The way they fold in is not as neat as with, say, and M3, but the M3 mirrors rotate upwards, meaning that if it rains or slushes, the mirrors will get dirty. The SLK mirrors fold inwards so that the mirrors are folded towards the door windows. This protects them better (but doesn't look as impressive).

Hi Shinigami

Looks like your SLK has folding mirrors feature. Can you enlighten us whether the mirrors can fold when you lock your car via the remote key fob?

The European S and E classes do have this feature and I'm wondering whether the SLK with folding mirrors act the same way.

Thanks

Thanks Greek1

Appreciate the insight. The US SLK350s don't have the folding mirrors option and I am looking into retrofitting the my SLK with this folding mirror.

Thanks again
