Hi
Just recently joined, I hope someone can help. When I removed the passenger (single) seat from my 2012 Vito 113 I found this device just laying loose in the battery compartment. It's a aluminium casting with seat belt ? wrapped around it, there is an electrical connection leading off it. The label says "do not remove from vehicle, and,
Hood Automotive tire Automotive lighting Finger Bumper
Automotive tire Automotive lighting Automotive exterior Finger Bumper

opening it may cause bodily injury" what is it and can I get rid of it ?

That's your old seatbelt tensioner. You can bin it.

The big question is why they cut the wire when they replaced it.

Check all your seatbelt tensioners make sure they are connected properly.

It may be that someone got it from a breakers to clear a fault code, then found out the fault wasn't the tensioner and just threw it in the electric box as a spare.
