All,
I read here often about some of you replacing or planning to replace the Cam Adjuster Magnet (that hockey puck like thing that leaks like a sieve). Just want to put the word out that here in the US there is a silent recall, meaning no notices are going out. If you bring your car in, you can get the CAM and the wire harness replaced no charge. This has been a recall for I think at least two years now.

In these cases they fit a blocker on the connector top front on the cam magnet connection. We have never had this free in the UK,,,you are very lucky over there with your laws.

We have to pay now for SBC brake pumps fitted to all 211 till 2006 and SL's to 2008 some £2k in some cases

What years are covered?
I just had mine done. Your dealer may call this a service campaign. It looks like 2001 - 2004 USA models, maybe other countries. Here are some notes I collected.:

“170 (SLK) 2001-2004 / 203 (C) 2002-2004
Service Campaign 2009100001 DEC09 oil may enter the engine wiring harnesses dealers will replace the camshaft adjustment solenoids and install additional adapter connector harnesses. Have your dealer check VMI to see if your vehicle is included in this campaign if so repair is covered by MB at no cost to owner. Approximately 66,113 vehicles are affected.”

Correction to my earlier post… it is the tail light recall in the stickies.

Here is a link to my post.:

I just replaced mine and cost me $125.00, 1999 SLK230. It was leaking oil. Also tinned the wires to stop oil wicking up to the harness. Easy job, but wish they included my year, could've saved some money. :)

I am not sure of the years affected, but I do believe it is for 320's as well

yes there was a thread 2 years ago about the time they issued this 'recall". But i kept reading about some members changing theirs out when it could be done free.

Covered by Recall?

Got a 2007 E350 with "check engine" light coming on and off every day or two (only $67K miles). Mechanic pulled codes and says it's Cam related, probably the magnets that were known for going out. Wants to hit me up for $460 to replace them. He says there was no recall but a "silent campaign" that would not cover it. Sounds like I need to take it to a MB dealer to see if it's really covered or not. Any comments?

You can just call your dealer's service department with your VIN to see if your car is applicable. It is unlikely, but possible that they will provide a repair estimate over the telephone.
