Reportedly wheel weighs whooping 24 lbs. Quite heavy for 17".

Not really, many of the aftermarket wheels like the Carlsson, AMG, Moda were heavier. I wanted the Moda R6 and it looked good but weight 26 lbs. Some of the Carlsson and AMG weight about 30 lbs. Yes, you can get some forged wheels that weigh about 12-18 lbs but they cost a lot of money and most don't come in MB offsets. One bargain lightweight wheel is the Konic Helium (silver or bronze), nice looking and 16.2 lbs. for 17" (comes in 15-19"), don't know if it comes with correct offsets.

Sure, but those were probably 15" and the 15" Konig Heliums are 10 lbs. 12 lbs 17" wheels that will fit the MB would probably cost about 600-800 each.
