Symptoms:
Subtle roughness or 'wobble' to the throttle
Loss of Power steering(pump)
Battery idiot light(alternator)
tempeture ROCKETING toward the red (water pump)
Upon inspection under the hood, it was the Harmonic Balancer which had failed causing the drive belt to break. Although the parts to put a new belt and balancer were not too bad, it was the scaring of the 'upper oil pan' which is going to spike the total cost of repair...9.5 hours labor!
What got me was that the mechanic was not surprised at the HB failure. 58K miles?!..Possibly a poor design?! At least the replacement was a updated replacement part.
Lesson learned:
Pay attention to the subtle sensations from the car and you may avoid a significant repair bill.
