Hi Gang,

Our '09 C300 (14,000 miles) is "using" about a quart every 5,000 miles.

Is that considered normal, or should I expect it to improve after I get more miles on the car?

THANKS, Dave

What oil are you using? When did you change the oil?

My 09 C300 with 16,000 miles has just had its second annual maintenance. While I did not closely scrutinize the dipstick, it appears no oil has been used during either of the two years....levels appear to remain stable at about 3/4 of the way to the maximum mark.

IMO that is totally normal consumption. The cars consumtion or use of oil is predicated on many things but mostly the type or style of driving you do and the associated environmental conditons as well. Some cars will consume as much as 1 quart every 1000 miles and is still considered normal especially within the break in period.

I am using Mobil 1, 0W40.

I changed it at 5,000 miles, the dealer did the 10K service and I changed the oil at 14,400 miles. Each time the oil was down approximately quart.

I have used Mobil 1 0W40 and Castrol 0W30.
In either case, my 09 C300 car doesn't consume oil at all.

One quart of oil in 5,000 miles is not normal. Ask your service department to look into it.

My 2008 C300 uses no significant oil at 13K oil change intervals (Mobil 1).

Service department should check it. But the oil use (1 quart per 5K miles) alone is not a justification for some kind of warranty repair.

I happen to speak to several techs today at my local MB dealership in Daytona Beach and they all said barring any other obvious abnormalities 1 quart of consumption over 5,000 miles is "WELL within normal specs" and not to be concerned.
