When I go to turn on my foglights with either my parking lights or headlights on the switch doesnt stay pulled out. Does this mean the headlight switch is worn out, and if it is how cheap is it to replace? or can i fix it without buying a new part

Check your switch's knob first. You can pull the knob out and look for cracks or wear. You can buy a new one for cheap. Then comes the actual switch. A little more complicated and costlier.

And no one uses parking or fog lights. So forget about it. I am sure you have more important things in your old car that needs attention.

the rest of the lights on the switch work fine, its just the fog lights that wont stay on. I'll check what you said to check and I'll go from there

I pulled the plastic knob you we're talking about and it looked okay. Would the actual headlight switch be able to be fixed or would it have to be replaced?

I would swap it out with one from your local PnP. Its an entire module assembly, unless you are wishing to tinker with it first.

i could probably tinker with it, none of the electrical parts in the switch is broken its just mechanical

i just need to figure out how to get to the switch itself, im sorta a novice when it comes to cars

I may just not worry about it, the 280 has other issues that i might make another post about. Currently its hot outside and im researching while waiting for it to cool down.

Headlight Switch Replacement

Does anyone have a link to a writeup of headlight switch replacement on w202 (1999 c230). I was unable to locate through a search on this forum. If replavement is similar to another model, let me know. I have a switch which will not turn to activate all positions.

I watched the video in that thread but it doesnt show how to remove the lower trim panel, Do I just pull it off or?

UPDATE: so i couldnt get the nut around the headlight switch off (didnt have the right tools) and now the switch is more sensitive now, so most likely im going to have to get a new switch.

EDIT: I also couldnt figure out how to get the lower trim panel off and i didnt want to risk breaking it.
