Just finished a brake upgrade on a 94 C280. 96/97 C36 front calipers with OEM rotors and Mintex pads. What a difference these calipers made, getting on the brakes now feels like dropping an anchor. Best of all the pedal feel is much improved. Since my setup is from a 96 and later car I also had to change the hubs...just a few milimeters is the difference between the parts fitting and not.

ive actually been thinking about doing this for a long time now, however i never thought about the amg brakes.

i have 18" wheels now and the brakes look so tiny in there lol. should any brakes from any mercedes work? or is there a year that i have to worry about not exceeding?

i realize there is stuf like esp/asr and other things that my car does not have, but if my car doesnt have them, the brakes should still work right, if its taken from a newer car with those features?

would i need to change the brake lines and resevior too?

some companies make big brake kits, but they are way too expensive in my opinion.

What I have read is that the C32 brakes bolt up. As you have a 95 W202 you will also need to change the hubs to the later versions like I had to. I got the calipers at a really good price so it made sense for me to go the C36 route. Even owning a C36 to compare parts side by side and spending hours in research....my install was filled with a few bumps and gotchas. In the end it was all sorted but it was hardly a one hour swap.

mine origionally had the crap solid discs, changed them to black diamond drilled and grooved discs all round, but the big difference was putting vented on the front, i had to get the c280 calipers and carriers to fit it, just the discs are a bit larger by 3mm if i remember correctly

What about doing this to a 98' C280 Sport. Do I still use the rotors form the C36 or do I use the C43's?

Silly, funny :) or silly, I crapped my pants on sticker shock

And what size rims do the C36 use, 16"?

I also been thinking about installing the C36's brake system on mine.

Alternatively, I actually decided to replaced my 220's brakes with W210 E320's on both the front and the rear.
The 320's front caliper is the same single piston sliding type as the 220's, however, it comes with larger pistons, larger pads, larger and thicker rotors (300mm. front, 290mm. rear) and the total weight would less than the 36's.

IMHO, It'd not has as aggressive braking feel as the 4 fixed calipers, but it provided much better brake balancing. The car is stopped faster and smoother. And the installation was just like plug and play. :D

I finally managed to track down the parts to this. The new brakes will be in by the end of next week.
I just realized that when this is done the spare will no longer work on the front. What did you use?
And, does anyone know what width will fit in the trunk without creating a problem with the trunk liner?

basically, with the same wheel width... a lower offset will cause the outside edge of the wheel to stick out more, making the wheels flush or even sticking out of the fender if the offset is too low. if the offset is too high it will be sunk into the fender. i think 34 will be perfect for this application. are you going to buy the wheel? if not i might lol. are there multiple ones?

i just put on brakes from an sl500 so now my stock spare tire will not work.

So how are the brakes from the SL500 working?
I've had to postpone my upgrade until next week as I'm going to have the flex discs driveshaft bearing and steering damper done at the same time and those parts aren't here yet.
I've got the new brakes here and they look huge sitting on my garage floor.

the sl500 brake upgrade worked fairly well. it wasnt as straight forward as the c36 upgrade will be. since my car was a 95 i had to upgrade to the 96 and later hubs... but it still didnt give me quite enough to make the sl500 brakes work correctly. i needed to add a 1mm spacer in between the hub and the rotor so that i could mount the calipers to the steering knuckle. other than that it works fine. they brakes feel like there is more bite... but i havent really gotten on them hard yet since im still following the directions for the break in period. the calipers look like they are the same as the c36 but the rotors for the c36 are 317mm and the sl500 is only 300mm, so they are a little smaller. i upgraded all 4 wheels. the backs bolted up perfectly. the 300mm rotors are bigger than stock... but they still look really tiny in my 18" wheels lol. i probably need something around 350mm or so to make my wheels look full. i will take some pictures once i finish the break in period and clean the brake dust off.
