Hello MB owners and fans.

I'm a sedan-shopping type that needs a manual and
a real clutch pedal, and I truly love the look of
the new C class. I'm quite interested in the C240
Sport with the new manual transmission, but I have
a burning question to resolve first:

Is it slow as hell?

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not a kid drag-racer,
and I don't expect V8 performance from a modestly
tuned 2.6L V6 in a good-sized sedan. That said, I
do want overtaking ability, I do like to feel that
the left lane is my turf, and I don't want to put
down this kind of money and leave the line without
a little bit of drama once in a while. I'd like to
exit tight corners in an authoritative fashion.

So, what's the verdict?

Are the powerband and gearing complementary enough
to bolster the overall effect, or no?

I've heard great things about the C320 but, alas,
MB has not seen fit to grace that car with the Big
Pedal On The Left at this time, leaving the C240.

I'd also like to know if C240 owners have noticed
any major decontenting on their cars compared to a
C320. I know BMW has been guilty of this brand of
price-point engineering in the past, and I'd want
to know if MB is doing anything along these lines.

Thanks for any input. This a great forum, and I'd
love to point my remote at a new C in the morning
if everything checks out.

Cheers,

T.

You will be happy with the C240/6. It is not designed for you to challenge other cars at a stop light and take off spinning your wheels, but the highway overtaking performance is outstanding. Why don't you test drive one?

Performance is very good

I have a Porsche 911 and a BMW 535is 5 speed, in addition to the wife's 6 speed C240.

The C240, with the stick has plenty of power, esp. once fully broken in (past 5000 miles).

My 911 is faster (duh), but the C240 feels as fast or faster than my 535is, which was and is considered a pretty quick car.

The C240 powerband and gearing are very usable. Its easy to shift quickly. I think its real world performance is much better than the factory numbers would lead one to believe.

Have you considered the C230?

Be gentle, I have one on order and I'm new to the board.

If you can appreciate or look past the funky look of it, I think you'll find a lot of car-- especially for the price.

Not looking for a coupe, sorry.

Wish I was, in a way - more options that include a
manual gearbox. Unfortunately, I want a sedan, and
finding the right one for the price isn't quite as
easily accomplished.

I do like the C230, but I'd miss the other doors.

T.

I totally agree with you Jo

The C230 is a heck of a good buy for all you get! There really is something to be said about the level of service a GOOD Mercedes dealer gives its customers. Good luck with it!!
