I have an 02 C230 with the tape deck and was wondering what the different numbers and options for the units that would be compatible for this model and year. I dont have a CD player, but would like one. Also, are there any aftermarket radios that would work? I would like to keep the MFD functionality on the radio, if at all possible. Any insight or advice is very welcome!:) Thanks

There are two factory options for a CD player - add a CD changer to your existing radio, or replace it with an OEM NAV unit. There are also some MBZ-specific aftermarket units by companies like Dynavin that are plug-and-play. Honestly, I recommend an aftermarket system. If you don't have the Bose option, then it's fairly easy. You can also buy aftermarket controls that will let you use the steering wheel controls, but I don't think any will give you text display on the MFD.

Thanks for the info! I do have the Bose system, so does that throw a monkey wrench into a Dynavin unit?

Thanks again

Yes, with Bose, there are no analog audio connection behind the HU. Instead, it uses the D2B fiber to send the audio digitally to the Bose amp in the trunk, then it's analog to the speakers. You could use a Dynavin (or any aftermarket unit) but you'll have to run wiring from the dash to the trunk, then tie into the analog speakers wiring there. Also, you probably don't want to use the Bose speakers with a non-Bose systems because one, they are 2ohm speakers and will likely not work with most other amps and two, they probably won't sound very good without the proprietary Bose equalization.

Thanks again

if you need one, I just removed the factory cd changer from my 05 and would sell it pretty cheap. not sure it would work with your head unit though. I hardly ever used it since new because I have always kept an ipod in the car.

Schumicat, your MY2005 changer won't work. Prior to MY2005, they used the D2B fiber system. Beginning with MY2005, they switched to MOST. RB, I am not sure what you mean by 1010 or 1011?

As I was looking at different places for head units, I saw the numbers coming up were cd-1010 and cd-1011. These were on the actual units. I haven't removed mine yet, so I don't know which it would be. I did a vin search but I suppose I need a build sheet or would it be in the data plate coding?

Sorry...its actually CM-1010 and CM-1011...

Any ideas which is compatible with the cd player, or what the difference may be?
