Some days ago, I found a 1980 slc 280 sitting in a shed. The owner wanted to get rid of it, so I bought it for little money. This is the car after it has been hand-polished.

290 000 kilometers on the dashboard

I have the full maintenance history. It has 2 previous owners. What do think about the car?

I'm taking it for a ride this weekend. The previous owner told me the brakes are getting soft (long pedal distance) after a while, what could that be? I'm changing the brake fluid asap, maybe that will do the job.

Please give me your comments!

She sure looks good in the pics ! Bleed out all your brakes and check for leaks, see where that gets ya. Good luck with it and congrats !

Flush all the old fluid out with new, bleed them and then check the pipework and flexis for any leaks or swellings. It would also be worth taking off all the wheels one by one and checking the calipers are free after standing so long, I had a seized piston in one of mine after standing over the winter.
Best of luck she looks a beauty.

Graham

If you are replacing the brake fluid it is my opinion that you should also replace the brake hoses. They are quite inexpensive and can cause big problems if they deteriorate on the inside, which happened on my 1973.

That car looks similar (Euro style) but much better than the 72 350slc I looked at on Monday. If the owner of the slc had just wanted to get rid of it, I might have been more interested. But as it is, I have enough work to do on my 300D which has some rusted/bolted on parts that won't budge :(

Good luck with the slc - look great!

Love the steel wheels and the European interior. Does it have a stick shift or is it automatic? Very pretty car. Where are you located?

Your car looks very good. I have been looking for one two but being in Canada it is hard to find one in such great condition or if a car is good the price for it is out of this world! Great find!
