I've contemplated getting a tailgate filler panel for my truck and was having a look at the pictures in your gallery. It seems that the filler panel crease lines up perfectly on the right (looking from the back) but at the left the filler panel line sits a little below the bumper line. How well does it really line up with the older bumper?

It's really up to you to adjust how you want it to fit, but on the tailgate itself or by adjusting the height of the bumper.

Here's a pic of mine vs. a good friend's '03 ML500

l had a body shop install my tailgate panel....l think it is a welcome addition to the back...is it a perfect fit..No..but its pretty close....You can either, two way tape it, or have it screwed in, like l did.....A great "mod".....

C-Rod, I think that you have a dual exhaust system. Could you tell me a little more about it please? Is it making a good sound? is it expensive?

Thanks man!

it wont always line up because the bumper cover is attached to the frame and not the body. if your car is not level, it could look a bit off

I must say that I doubt flex/movement of the frame vs body would be enough to be visible in any gaps on the ML (maybe on a Dodge/GMC etc. [:)] ).

I stand corrected. I must say that the gap between the hatch and rear bumper is not THAT small - it is a fair amount of flex to get those marks on the bumper....

BTW, does anyone know what the part number is? I tried to explain to my local MB parts department over the phone, but they replied with a price of around $1000 (Canadian) so they must have misunderstood (I hope).

RE: Tailgate filler

Just be sure you mechanically fasten it. I didn't want to drill holes in the tailgate, and used 3M Marine Grade double stick tape. It worked fine unitl I went skiing and at 20 degerees and 50 mph saw it blow off the back of the car! Cold did the adhesive in.

I did but he seems almost reluctant to sell it, replying that it is a difficult install and a Mercedes part that must be painted without actually providing a delivery time or shipping estimate...

Thanks for the heads-up. It's been known to get to 20 degrees up here, so I guess when (if) I do get this it's off to the bodyshop. Did you replace yours?
