I have a 2001 W220 (S500) with 80k miles on the clock and all was fine until a couple of weeks ago. Firstly, I noticed that the front door-mounted speakers were not working - they have since worked intermittently. Then I noticed that when I pressed the brake pedal, I could hear a small crack in the rear speakers - similar to if a switch was broken without being surpressed. Since then, the problem has grown into an engine speed related whirr/buzz in the speakers which is there whether the radio is on or off. The problem seems to disappear after a couple of miles or when the car is warm. Any ideas please?

I think this maybe induced current ino the speaker cables as I can't think why else the speakers would make this noise when the audio system is off. The car recently went in for some warranty paintwork and perhaps the bodyshop placed some power cables too close to the speaker cables. ???
