Car is a 1984 Euro 280CE, white with cloth anthracite interior and is new to me. The original owner's Son, not who I purchased the car off, failed at his attempts to remove the dash wood trim, not knowing the proper way, and destroyed all the dash trim and damaged the shifter trim piece.

With the above being said, perfect time for all new wood trim. I like the looks of burl, but need advice on what color/darkness did Mercedes use in the late 1980's?

Opinions on what would look good against a black/anthracite interior? I am leaning towards a darker burl, but not committed.

The second vender below offers natural burled walnut, dark burled walnut and light burled walnut.

Anyone have any experience with either vender. Remember, I don't have good pieces to restore and I can buy from these two outright. I would not get the steering wheel.

On-line vender in Germany offers only one color.

Pictures are from an eBay seller from Turkey

The coupes from 77 to 79 had the burl wood here and it wasn't very dark - similar in tint to the W126 burl - I'd say the Burled Walnut but you know how trying to colour match over the internet is ......

The only thing to watch is
i) Check that the piece that goes around the two dials for the heater doesn't needs 2 slots for Left and Right vent control
ii) the number of switch options in the piece above the heater control matches what you have. Also the aircon tumbler in that row needs a slightly different rectangular shape.

I purchased a full Zebrano wood trim set last year from the first vendor, HPW-car design, for my 84 coupe. I chose zebrano since that's what my car came with. I don't know what shade of burl Mercedes was using in the late 80's, but I think any of them would look great.

Anyway, I am very happy with the quality. I corresponded with them via email, including sending some photos of my original set to ensure the kit included the correct pieces, i.e., the correct number of holes for switches and electric windows, and that slider slot mentioned above. The person I dealt with was knowledgeble. I used google translate to convert my English to German, and their German to English which was a bit tedious, but got it done.

I am leaning towards that vender myself. They actually got back to me, in English, and asked for pictures of my pieces so they get it correct. Their work looks great. My car came with the Zebrano as well, but I think burl with a black interior would look nice.

I swapped a switch panel on my car with one from HPW design. The quality is really excellent. I got one with an extra slot to put in a switch for footwell lights.
The colour doesn't match the original, but thats most likely due to it being 37 years old and faded.

They seem like about the only place you can buy pieces outright instead of having to send in pieces away to be restored. The benefit with buying all new pieces will be that they will all match. Not a cheap investment, but do it once and do it right...
