Anyone who ordered the built in garage door opener for their SLK and who has a rolling code garage door (like me) will find it does not work and Mercedes are not much help.

Their garage door operators only work with standard 433MHZ garage door openers so anyone with a more modern "rolling code" garage door opener (ie the code changes every time it is pressed for security) will find it will not work.

There is a solution however. You need to order a Universal receiver from

and add this to your garage door motor. It then works fine. Costs about 45 Euros.

I don't know if openers are different in the UK, but I have two rolling-code garage door openers and I didn't have any problem programming my SLK. The manual told me how to do it. Basically, after doing the normal programming step I had to climb a latter in the garage and press the learning button on the opener. Then I had 30 seconds to get back in the car and press the appropriate button for a couple seconds. It has worked fine, since.

I also programmed mine for my rolling code opener and hade no problems.

I wonder if the garage opener is built into each and every SLK, but only activated on those who want the feature. Kinda like the rain sensing wipers?

I have brand new rolling code openers(genie) and found it bit of a pain in the ass to do(running up and down a ladder to press the learn button), but it worked. It did however, take a try or two to get all three garage doors programmed but in the end, no problem. They work.

They don;t work on the UK ones, Mercedes admitted it. Each country has a different frequency range programmed for the garage door. I dont think they are fitte dto all cars unless you have three buttons by the interior light

Yes you do lose the added security features of the rolling code but this is apparantly the only way to make them work in the UK

What is everyone's experience with the range of the garage/gate opener. My is very weak [!] I practically have to be 15 ft. from the opener for it to work, this applies to both the gate and the garage. With the regular opener, I could be about 70 ft. away. The opener in the Suburban and the Lexus works so much better i.e. longer, much longer range than the MB. Another thing that bothers me is that once the car is off, the opener is off too! Any suggestion or idea to increase the range is greatly appreciated.

Mine is exactly the same, very poor range and wont work when the ignition is off

I don't have any suggestions for increasing the range, but mine works from about 70 ft. or so. That's the farthest I've ever tried it, actually, when pulling up to the mailbox.

Not sure why I would want to use it with the car shut off. When I leave the house the car is in the garage and I use the hardwired opener. When I come home I open the door while in motion and drive right in the garage.

I never really tried to test the range but my driveway is at least 60 feet from the garage and it opens fine, so range is not a problem. My wife has an E-class and hers works fine too from that range. I wonder if there is any sort of adjustment that can be made to increase the range for those that seem to having a problem.

You can lengthen the antenna wire on the garage door opener to increase its range. This works on Genie brand openers. I'm not sure about the others.
