Broken Center Console Box Rolltop

Just bought a '95 E320 coupe (pics forthcoming) that has a near-perfect interior with one glaring exception: the lip of the wood rolltop was savagely ripped off at some point and it is irritating me to no end

So tomorrow I'm off to the salvage yards with a couple questions:

1. Do the coupes use the same console box as the sedans? There are a couple E420's available that might make suitable burlwood donors.

2. Can the wood rolltop panel be removed for use in the existing box, or must you replace the entire unit?

Thanks! You guys were an invaluable resource in deciding to get my W124 :D

All of the later model 124 coupes used the burl wood. The wood from a roll-top box can be removed from a used box and transferred to an existing one. But it involves taking apart the box itself and putting it back together. It's not a hard job in my opinion but I highly doubt that somebody at a salvage yard is going to let you take apart a box and sell you just the wood. He'll sell you the whole box.
