Just got my 380SL back from the shop and was washing it and noticed the passenger side back up light lens was broken. Called the shop and he said he didn't know anything about it. Course he didn't - it's been sitting outside his shop on a main street over a week.

Anyway, I have a lens that has a good backup light. My question:

Can I remove the clear lens from the broken one and swap them out? As y'all know already, the lenses are expensive and don't want to make my indie pay for one if I can avoid it

Answer is no. The clear is fused to the red, but this one is still useable, if you want it I'll ship it.
Wrong side Petey.......

I've looked at this problem, you would need a really accurate low-speed sawblade, the pieces would have to be dead flat and square (sanded with 220/400 grit sandpaper) and then I'm not really sure what kind of adhesive could permanently attach the parts (just guessing, I suspect that this was melted/fused when the parts were still hot from the mold). Maybe some kind of MEK-based stuff like PVC pipe cement/primer might work, and this will take some neatness in order to avoid melting the front or back. The result would absolutely have to be water-tight or it might wind up costing a lot more than a new lens. Also, consider that the left/right lenses are both visible at the same time and they fade; a newer lens on one side will look different than an older one on the other side.

Don't think you can just mechanically separate the pieces by trying to split them. Don't ask how I know.

Thanks Pete, the broken one is on the passenger side. Appreciate the offer to ship it. May try to separate it anyway (using a coping saw if they are fused). Nothing to lose on the old broken one anyway.

There's a junque yard in Pensacola that's been parting out a 107 but that's over 50 miles away so gonna try this first.

: Well nevermind - just went to take pictures and they are not compatible even if I got it off. Left and right are curved different. So off to the junque yard next week I guess

Well, Hey, if you're gonna make the trip, I'd be glad to help with gas money if you could pick up the bulb circuit boards from those, the left especially. On mine, the PO butchered them up pretty badly, the left the worst, and I'm either gonna have to rebuild them, or get working ones. Of course I'd pay you for the parts, as well. PM me if you're interested, and TIA.
