I recently had my gearbox rebuilt (722.6) 5sp auto from a W202 by the guys at 3 Point Classic Mt. Gravatt. It took a while to get all the parts in I neede, as they need to come from overseas, but overall the process was quite painless, and gearbox appears to be fine so far.

I pretty much always go to them for spare parts (if I can't get it from Euro Car Parts that is :p ) I do most of the work on my car myself, but for things like gearbox rebuilds, I'd get these guys to do it. It's probably not the cheapest around, but they are trustworthy, know what they're talking about and do a good job.

Hi Ross, For anyone on the north side of Brisbane I have recently found a guy who worked for Mecedes in Germany, came to Australia and worked here at MB and now has his own workshop with the latest computer. He knows the cars and is very helpful and is half the price of an MB workshop.

Guys since I've got my first Merc 5 1/2 years ago I've been getting all my servicing done by Aust-Star at Coorparoo. Andrew and Theo have never done anything to p!ss me off.

With my E320 about to arrive in my driveway they'll be getting to play with that also. Trouble is, Theo will be really pinged off that I sold the S420 to Melbourne without giving him the option to buy.

Oh well, canna be helped!

I agree . I took my newly purchased 2002 ML 270 here to get the gearbox sorted and he did a great job and was reasonably priced. I am taking it back for servicing from here on. Nice guy as well. The prices I have been quoted by him are similiar to what i paid for my ford ranger!! very happy :)

Three Point or Tri-Star?

I see quite a few people recommending Tri-Star Motors at Newstead.
But...
Tri-Star is at Nundah and Three Point Classic is at Newstead.
I rang Tri-Star and asked if they used to be at Newstead and they said no.

So which one is being recommended here?
My 89 260E needs some suspension love and my current mechanic just doesn't seem to know these older European cars very well.

Cheers! :)

Both have good reputations, one either side of the city.

Wannabe/future owners or current?
I definitely plan to own one of these at some stage in the near future, but just the W124 at the moment :)

Ok, while he doesnt do mechanical, Humptys Perfect Panels at 1/4 Gunn Street, Underwood (3341 3444) did a lot of paint and ding repairing on my E240. For $1200 I'm surprised it came up as good as it did, and he did roof, boot, rear right... and bonnet? cant remember. I just know it looks damn nice now.

I tried many workshops including dealerships, but "Autohaus Dietler" located in Wynnum is the best one. I get all my Mercs serviced by these guys since 2018. Very clean workshop and what I personally like the most is the direct reception. The mechanic checks your car while you watching him and explains every detail and every service item that needs to be done. Won't go anywhere else.

Hi Selena, I have been taking my car ('89 260E) to Peter Henderson who used to have a workshop at Albion and now works from home near Eatons Hill. Autohaus Dietler above seems to have very good google reviews though too.
Some years ago, the guy at Brendale butchered my lower control arms replacing bushings and charged more than a new set of control arms would cost, so I'm not a fan. But there will always be these experiences with different customers and business though I guess.
Feel free to PM me if you would like Peter's number.
