I was approaching a red light and i didnt see it and i was going about 45 wiht like around 30 feet to brake so i pressed down, and i felt the brake go in by itself? The car stopped fine but the brake kinda went in by itself after i pressed hard. Is this normal?

It is called BAS, it kicks in when you press the brake pedal unusually quickly, it applies full pressure to the brake as it assumes you are trying to do an emergency stop. That is why the brake light switch has two switching positions.

It is the result of some accident analysis which showed that, even in emergency braking situations, drivers tend not to apply full pressure to the brake pedal and, therefore, not stop as quickly as possible.

It is amazing. It save me from hitting a deer by about 2 feet. I stabbed the pedal, kept it pinned and the BAS light popped on for a second. It was an amazingly short, smooth, straight stop.
What scares me is that if somebody was tailgating me they most certainly rear ended me.

A similar situation happened to us this afternoon. Except my dad slammed the brakes to stop because the sun was glaring and he almost ran a yellow-to-red light.

I think BAS activated, and it was a very smoth stop. Unlike other cars, I wasn't thrown forward.
