My 99 R129 brakes are audible (groan, not squeal) and grabby at low speeds when wet and cold. Very difficult to come to a completely smooth stop, but not a safety concern. Without taking anything apart - things look fine. I am thinking PO neglected fluid changes or let pads run too low and I have pitting on the front caliper pistons. Before I start disassembling - is this behavior normal for R129?

Benz has pad sensors and other "nanny" type systems. unless your car has been altered you will get a message about pad wear.
I have several vehicles that with renewed pads react differently.
Some pad material composition is grabby, others squeal. Wet is always another world of friction dynamics.
Good luck on your search

I can't tell you how many times I've had brakes apart trying to find the problem,on high mileage cars, hard to figure it out, always end up replacing everything.good luck.
