Mine just started coming on intermittently when the brakes are applied...usually when cold. Is the flickering of this warning light normal. Do I need to rush out and replace the pads ASAP or do I have another 1k or so left....and finally, will the light eventually stay on full time???
The light will eventually stay on once the plastic sheath on the brake sensor has worn through some more. You do have some time, but I wouldn't take too long...
The problem you are experiencing is with the brake sensor lines. They are probably loose. If the Brake pads themseles were worn down, there is no doubt that the brake warning lights would remain lit at all times, or remain lit as long as the brake pedal was depressed. They are easy to replace, and mercedes wil give them to you no charge. Just remove the wheels, and locate the small 3inch plugs connected into the pads. Remove them and replace. I would start with checking the front sensors because they take the most abuse and brake dust.
