Hi khomer
Thank you for your response
I did a search - will try again - looking for an actual wiring diagram
I will update my profile
Currently have 4 ml320s
1998 ml 320 running
2002 ml 320 needs new engine - flooded in Harvey
2003 ml 320 needs replacement steering rack
2002 ml 320 running - possible engine donor - this car was used by both kids and has been battered in several crashes since repaired. Thanks to lkq
All these MLs have the high milage award from Benz
Thanks

I had heard a couple years back from another "I tow with my ML" member that he had U-Haul install a Trailer brake controller successfully & well done.

He explained that it like this:

- They do tons of Hitches / wiring / brake controllers, Nationwide.

- They maintain a very comprehensive database of parts & notes for this work - so each job obce known can be replicated + strong written Warranty.

- Price was reasonable. Best bet: Call their 800 # find our nearest "Large City" with very busy Pro U Haul Hitch Shop. The smaller towns / dealers won't have this but big cities do.

You'll need to have appointment.

I was going to do my ML that way - and still might - but having only towed sub 3500 # single axle trailers no need yet.

I have my mighty Cummins Ram for bigger tow jobs !

Hooe that's of some help !

Was just looking into this over the weekend, had to tow a trencher, used my GMC instead (trencher and trailer was over 5000 lb

Then by chance yesterday hit a yard, that had a 320 with one installed debating if I should pull it?

Our 1999 ML430 had a brake controller wired in for towing a small aluminum horse trailer by U-Haul. No issues at all.
Once we moved to a larger trailer my wife used our pickem up truck for towing. I removed the brake controller and
hitch from the ML thinking it was going to get sold, but the buyer never came up with the money. The hitch and controller were sold locally to another ML owner.
For the several years we had it it never failed to do its job.

Nice to hear Noodles. Was that done at a larger U-Haul Center with dedicated Hitch Install shop ?

For me, I'd probably have to go near or into Houston or Dallas to find a larger U-Haul Center - the kind that rents storage places almost always have major Hitch shop too.

Around East Texas there's only small dealers who rent equipment.

I did hook up my Tandem Axle 7k Capacity (with single braked axle) trailer to the ML - but it was messed up due to no Brake Controller - the 7 pin round connector fit pigtail on trailer but the brake signal was either 0 or 100% so there was no 'Proportioning' the slightest touch on MLs brakes locked up the trailer brakes !

Scary & weird feeling.

Of course, I unhooked pigtail to quit the brake lockup issue.

Most of the time I pull that trailer with the Dodge Ram which HAS brake controller.

Cheers - David

Hey Wallyo:

Different topic - sorry no thread hijack intended:

Do you still have that Yaw Rate Sensor we talked about 4 months ago or so?

I believe the ML could use it.

Please let me know how to get payment to you - I can send a Postal Money order.

I couldn't figure out how to send a Private Message (duh) been a long time since I did - but saw you post here & hoping to reach you.2 ll

Finally got the ML running down the road again YEE HAW - but some codes & lights remain on.

Thanks a ton - David in Texas

This is weird. I see no Inbox, nothing about private messages. Under My Account > Alerts (accessed by Avatar) I see:

Am I blind ?

Thx David

Yeah, Texans - crazy from being MASKED in 100 degrees @ High Humidity....we have valid reasons, no ?

Actually I get a pass, as I don't now & never will wear a MASK (aka Government mandated MUZZLE).

Seriously though, whats weird is a few moments before you posted that I did click on 'Converstations' and it showed my posted threads or comments, NOT and Inbox like I now see.

OK, well now I see the one from Wallyo.....Cheers - David

It was probably one the largest U-Haul centers in the Milwaukee area. Hitches are a huge part their business.
At the time that had 3 bays dedicated to just hitch installs. Even the new car dealers would bring cars there
to have them install hitches and repair them.

Nice.
I imagine a busy U Haul hitch shop has an equal or better chance of doing a proper Brake Controller Install on our MLs than an MB Dealer who seldom does them...
