I believe Arnott (Arnott Industries, Merritt Island, FL) buys old struts.

I got to drive an Ex ABC CL the other day that had a (good) Coil over Kit and Anti-Rollbars (Sway bars).

How's the ride?
Like a W203 C Class ;) ................

In other words, it isn't awful, but CL / S Class it isn't, no where near as planted through the twisties at very high speeds !!

Definitely a downgrade in my experienced opinion.

I understand why Guys do this, but I never would.

I know, Dave, I know. :)

The ride in our S600, which also has the Strutmasters kit + front anti-sway bar, rides and handles quite well, better than our W211 for sure. It's important to remember that, at the monetary value where these cars are now, it can make sense to do the conversion. Also, given typical USA roads, we don't see the springs snapping the way others do on the roads in some other locales. Yes, we're pretty fortunate over here that way. I'm glad that I did it. As always, the key--and this is a Big Deal--is to get the kit that matches your specific model of car, and given @OhioBenz's stated results, it sounds like that was done here.

Arnott does indeed purchase old cores. I'd give them a call. Strutmasters themselves might also.
