Bosch bought Denso shares as an investment back in the 50s? That seems weird. Does Ford own millions in Chrysler stock? Home Depot in Lowes?

These days it seems like most of the long-trusted brand names are just shells used by venture capitalists to milk the name for all it's worth.

They're bought/sold like my kids trade Pokemon cards.

I know, all these years and I never even heard a rumor about that.

Hard to believe it didn't leak out.

I guess it's kind of like the old Delco-Remy being bought out by GM and becoming just AC Delco.

It now makes sense that I used to remove Denso plugs from new Mercedes
during the 1st 15K service once and a while. Most times it was Bosch.

Doesn't sound like Bosch ever exerted a ruling share hand over Denso...they are competitors. Sounds like Bosch stepped in during post WWII yrs during Japan's reconstruction and thought maybe they'd 'check' Denso if they ever got a total world market share?

It's not unheard of. Did you know that Ford owns Mazda and Renault owns Nissan? When you drive a Mazda3, you're riding in a Japanese car with European Ford Focus underpinnings. Ditto with the Mazda2, with Ford Fiesta underpinnings.

It's part of globalization and economies of scale.

As far as MB, that would explain the use of certain Denso components, such as the air pump, A/C compressor, etc. I take comfort in havng Denso when it comes to the A/C compressor as Germans don't live in a climate that dictates A/C use as evidenced by the Euro MBs where A/C is optional.

Yes, knew that a while now.

Remember when Ford introduced the Ranger in the 80's?

Mazda B2000 with Ford name plates on it.

Actually, it was the other way around. Mazda ditched their international version of the B series pickup in the USA, and badge engineered a "new" B series based on the Ford Ranger.

See link
Ford Ranger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Remember the 1st gen Ford Explorer with the exploding transmission and the Mazda Navajo??? Same Detroit POS, just different badge.

The best example is the Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute/Mercury Mariner/Ford Maverick (European version) . . . they were all based on the old Mazda 626 platform from the early 90s using parts raided from the Mazda & Ford parts bins.

End result is the same Ford/Mazda pick up.

The engine was all Mazda for sure, I had one. Not one bit of Ford engineering.

There's always been buy-out/partnership weirdness. Ford owned Jaguar, Chrysler owned Lamborghini etc......and so it goes.

Chrysler couldn't get the crankshaft right on the prototype V-10 and so sent the engine across the pond to Lamborghini. Lamborghini sent back two engines; the V-10 truck engine and the V-10 Viper version. I've had the truck version since '95. The engine has enough low-end torque to be a log skidder....which it has done on occasion.:p

Wished that would have helped me yesterday morning @17degrees. Probably would have fallen asleep under the car and found as a human popsicle.:D
