i continue to be baffled what the hell prompted them to call it Bluetec... always makes me think of a vehicle blowing blue smoke from oil or coolant making its way into the cylinders...

Is this some kind of german cultural anomoly like how the Japanese refer to the "Green" traffic light as "Blue"? Who knows?

Is it just me or do you think this is a misguided name? Maybe there some trademark issue with calling it something more appropriate like "greentec"? or "ecotec"... or even "powertec"

It is a risky color to use in a name. Blue baby, and code-blue... But then, the police do not say, "He blue (sic) a 1.2 blood alcohol level."

Blue and silver are MB colors. They are also long associated with engineering - blue prints, blue-printed engines, etc. There is also something very cold hearted (blue) about the application of engineering skills and principles. Ice Blue, without emotion, and steely blue eyes (like mine). But then, there is True Blue and many happy blue associations - sky, blue birds, etc. Green is over used in the enviornmental area.

So, let's just hope that DC did not create a major blue-per with this marketing effort. Wow! I feel a little blue just considering this issues.

[:D]Funny, yet you bring up many good points. IMO, Bluetec sounds more Diesel related, so IMHO, calling it Bluetec is right.[;)]

New Aftermarket Parts...

Looking forward, I think that the aftermarket is going to have alot of fun with these vehicles. Think about it, these engines will be de-tuned dramatically. If you do not live in California and you actually eliminate all of the emissions and "swap the chip", I am willing to bet that these engines will perform much much better.

What do you think?
