I know that this post should be under the W126 forum but I thought I would try here as well as we all have the same engine.
I have a n 84 300SD, I was pulling wires under the dash throught the firewall and I found a Black Vacume Hose with nothing attached to the end under the dash. The other end attaches to the square metal device on the rear of the injection pump. Where is the end under the dash supposed to attach to?

If I'm not mistaking,that hose is supposed to sit in there just like that,with it not being attached to anything.

It's a vent line. This question was posted on another forum as well.

this should go as a FAQ for 617 engines. I've seen it asked many times, sometimes with great debate and even people saying "stick it here..." or "plug it off"

but yes, the correct answer is it's a line to "atmosphere"
