Black tail lights

At http://www.importvision.com/PickAccessories.php?PartMake=Mercedes, near the bottom of the page, there are black tail lights for 190Es. They look very cool, but do you guys think they are legal in North America ? They seem very dark and there might be a law against lights like these, can someone please confirm that they are legal ?

A lot will depend on your "neck of the woods." I know of a 190 owner in NJ who got failed on an annual inspection for having all red tinted rear lenses. Just last month, I passed with DIY smoke tinted rear lenses (I didn't tint the reverse window part). I would check around the tuning shops in your area to see what has happened to their customers.
