my black 97 r129 needs a new top (actually the top is OK but the stiching on the windows is failing). I would rather NOT buy another black top. Has anyone put a gray or beige top on a black body. Would love to see PHOTO. thanks from a New guy.

Hi New guy ! Don't take it personally, but that ought to knock the value of the car down by a couple of grand ! IMHO anytime you mix black with any other color, you have a mess. That's why for the last 60 years, people advertise cars as triple black to attract the premium buyer ! Don't say I didn't warn you :D
But as they say here, if it squeaks your duck, what the hell !

I doubt it will look bad, but gray top is not pleasant to clean... all the hassle of black top+ the hassle about dark sout/contamination

also, as long as you use OEM parts, color does not matter, I dont think the color of the soft top is stated in the vehicle record, so someone haggling to drop the price over this is probably someone you dont want to sell anything to... because, chances are, they will take you to court under lemon law the next time the blinker bulb burns out...
