I have a 1/4" chip in my 2020 GLC 300 that I'd like to touch up properly. I have black 040 paint from the dealer, but do I also need to apply clear coat?

My understanding is that touch up paint from MB that does not come with a clear coat (like black 040 - it's just the paint with the little brush) don't need clear coat.
