Do I need to change the fuel line/filter in my '82 300GD in order to run b99.9? I have read that some types of lines/filters are adversely affected by biodiesel. Thanks

The MB fuel systems in diesels of that vintage handle bio-D well. People have had problems with that fuel cleaning out gack and clogging filters. Some hoses might become problematic because some rubber can't handle it well. The best hoses for the fuel are Viton lined and are very expensive. We haven't had issues with that fuel. Your milage may vary..Get an extra fuel filter or two and go for it.

I'd like to add that you don't necessarily need viton hose to safely run biodiesel. As long as the hose is not too old, it should be able to stand up to the fuel. Brand new OE fuel lines will suffice just well.

Hoses/filters

Do you self and your passengers a favor, run one tank of bio then replace all fuel lines and fuel filters and carry spare filters. Having your car slow down due to clogged lines and stopping on the side of the road is dangerous and avoidable. The cost of hoses and filters is way less than the towing charges and the hassle IMHO!

I have been runnig B99 biodiesel in the Summer and B50 equivalent in the Winter for over a year now in my 85 300GD. I have friends running commercial biodiesel in several other types of vehicles. The only thing I did when starting with the bio was I changed the filter early because of the gunk problem mentioned. I like biodiesel so much I invested in a biodiesel company. I have had no negatives in switching and I have found a power increase of about 3%. I recently was told second hand that someone had a biodiesel problem with MBUSA not covering a warranty issue. However, it was not confirmed and did not add up.

Any tips on things I can do with this 617 engine to squeeze as much power out of it as possible without sacrificing reliability???
