I am getting ready to replace the shocks on my '86 560SL and I am going
to go with Bilstein. My question is how much difference is the between
the "Touring" and performance upgrade. I guess what I would like is some
feedback as to ride characteristics. Are the Performance shocks too stiff?
I came across a set of 4 BBS "Honeycombs" in 8x16 and when I get tires
I might as well do the shocks. All comments will be appreciated.
I came across the car on "Craigslist" about 4 years ago. It had 89,000 original miles on it. I got it from a guy who did'nt want it anymore. He gave it to me for $2500.
Thanks!:)

There is only one style of bbs honeycombs I know of that will fit the front of a 560sl, the bbs rs133, and last time a set was available I contributed to sending two of them to Chicago and two to Finland.

Do your bbs bolt on the front of your 560sl? If so, please post pictures.

As far as the shocks, I don't think that there is enough you can do to a 107 to stiffen up the ride. Potholes with hd bilstein and 16" wheels will be harsh, but in my opinion, it is a great setup to take all of the bouncing out of those hard corners. I think my 225/50/16 et11 setup with nice soft summer tires handles like it is on rails. I love cornering in the 73 with these "upgrades". With my 14" and the old shocks it was downright scary. Now with new shocks and the 205/70/14 tires I have the guts to drive it hard but only when there is room for the tires to bounce around all over the road. (drifting 107 style?). :)

BBS Honeycomb

I got the 4 from a man who had them on a 300SD. He in turn got them from a
man who had them on a 560SL. As to actually trying them on my car, not yet.
In the advent that they may not work, I think I can safely get my money
out of the. After all how many do you see for sale?
Thanks!

I have 18 bbs weave wheels in my garage. :)
All Mercedes fitment.

So they are out there.

You will get you money back. I never bought a set as cheap as you have. So you are right that there is no risk... But check the fit before you buy tires.

I bought a set of lorinser LO 8x16 et11 that were supposedly on a 560sl. I know they were not unless they had the front brakes switched out.

That graphic would have helped me when I first started. I thought the search was just the text box in the top left with the search button that searched all of Benworld.
