Hello Experts,

Need your help.

My driver side headlight, low beam wasn't working;got a new bulb but didn't help. When I switch on the high beam, the driver side high beam bulb blinks a few times and stays on.

Took it to an indy. He says I need to replace either the module ($775 + tax) OR the entire headlight assembly ($1150 + tax).

What are my options?

PP or Autohausaz?

Entire Assemby or the module only?

Pl. help me.

Thank you,

Soma

It is most probably your ballst (module - mounted under the headlight - need headlight assembly removal to be replaced). If you do not mind a used one here is a link to it:

Yes, it was the ballast.
Replaced it and the headlights are working.

BTW, the D2S 35W bulb has both the high and low beam , is it?

Then what is the other High Beam headlamp for (the bulb in the adjacent housing) ?
I am referring to Item 4 , page#284 of the operator's manual.

Thanks,

Soma

Bi-XENON HL question

I am backing into this thread since I dont know how else to do it.
My HID Xenon left HL was flickering and I bought a pair of generic D2S bulbs on Ebay.
However, after installing one and testing, the HLs would not come on.
Examination of the base of the replacement bulbs showed a slight difference.
While the bulbs located properly and appeared to be correct. There is a problem.
I am attaching 2 fotos and would like to get suggestions as to whether or not these are compatible with ML 400 CDI. Is there something I am doing wrong are the bulbs no good for my installation.
Note the difference in the small slots in the base

Before you bought the bulbs, did you switch the bulb that was working to the side that wasn't working? This would have told you if you had a wiring problem or a balast problem.

seller probably sold you a D4S/D4R bulb (Mercedes uses D2S bulbs on these trucks) or it is one of those knockouts bulbs meant to fit all three applications.

The bulb in the left photo is probably not making proper contact.

Also please switch sides with your old bulbs as was suggested earlier in this thread.

You were right 43sqd, it is apparently the ballast.
Ballast ID: Xenon Zundgerat
5DD 008 319-10
Max 30 kv/85v AC
34W nom.
This is a twist on unit that mounts directly on to the bulb base.
I found one available in China( Long delay in shipping/processing.)
Do I have a choice?

You did not purchased a ballast, you did purchase an igniter. P/N for ballast is: 5DV 008 290-00 made by Hella.
BTW ballast is located under the light fixture, fixture needs to be removed to be accessed.

Bula:
I havent purchased an igniter, I am looking for one and so far the only one I have found is in China.
I have asked if anyone knows of a replacement for this unit which is a twist-on to the bulb base.
I would prefer a replacement rather than modification to the existing system.

I never seen an igniter going bad, you acknowledge that your ballast is defective and posted a p/n for igniter (see below). Just make sure you buy the right part. Why do you want to buy an igniter anyway?
