Any active members in this area. Preferably near Palo Alto Air port?

Trying to save myself a trip if I can.

And Yes i have been on the map. Mike Prince is the only local I see, but can't remember who he is on this board. Bad memory and all. And if there are others in the general vicen.

Thanks

Yep, I need someone with an eye for funky stuff like unimogs. Have an airplane based at the Palo Alto municipal or San Carlo Airport I would like to get another eye on before I drop a deposit on it.

Sure no problem. My shop is actually in San Carlos so I'm in the area all the time. As far as the "eye" goes I got you covered. I'm a Mechanical Engineer, most of my work is for the DOD & DOE. I live and breath "mechanisms" everyday so I'll spot anything that should be investigated or is questionable. Glad to help, PM me.

Found out the airplane is in Watsonville. Nate is going to check it out in the coming week or so. But Rick, if you find yourself near the Watsonville airport, you could grab some quick pics and possibly save me and Nate some time. You would be able to see the airplane sitting on the ramp and you could walk right up to it. Otherwise I will wait for Nate to check it out.

Watsonville is a little out of the way for me to check it out during the week when there's daylight. But I can get some pictures Saturday or Sunday. PM me if I can assist.

So what type of plane, anything exciting, fast or rare?

I grew up around planes and air racing in the 70’s as my dad and his friends use to do pylon racing both on short course and cross county as well as doing a lot of dusting with ag tractors/wagons before crop dusting was band hear and flying became expensive in the UK. :(

Nothing to fancy, just a fun toy. This one is a 1969 Maule M4-220C strata rocket. Hopefully it turns out in the condition the owner says it is and I will be flying her home soon.

Little bigger than a 140 plus it carries 4 people and has 220HP. But you get the idea. They are sorta the Unimog of light aircraft. Except they go fast.

Checking in...

Yes, I'm in Los Altos and would have been happy to help with a quick sanity check.

Same as others said, Watsonville is a little out of the way normally, but there is a chance I might be going that way in the next few days if you still need help.

Good luck with your purchase!

It climbs 1600 ft per min,and he has had it to 25,000 feet.He has circled the globe and raced it in Reno in 1970. Then he has a Executive Twin Beech w/ 1500 hp of hair raising radials. High Flight

Well, Nate went out and took a look at the plane today. Report was fairly good so far minus the engine wouldn't start. Hopefully she passes her Pre purch. inspection next week so she can be flown to her new home here in Albuquerque sometime in Dec.

Thank you very much Nate!! You went above an beyond!!

Hey no problem, it was a beautiful day for a drive down the coast!

I've also been in your shoes, and have been fortunate enough to connect with some great people that helped me from afar that ultimately let me dodge a bullet or pick up a vehicle with more confidence. I also pick up hitch-hikers! :)

I figured I would post the video of the start attempt for people's viewing pleasure:

AND this one, it's not your plane, but holy short take off!! I can imagine some beautiful fishing spots that this plane could visit..

That fuel looked awfully thick hitting the ground. Could it have been oil?
That looks like a cool toy KC. The no start should not be a deal breaker, but I would be very interested in structural corrosion depending on where that aircrat has spent most of it's life. That is located pretty close to where I bought my Mog. Your drive home should be a little faster than mine was.
