Best way to cut ABS plastic?

4418 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Storm
I am doing an installation project this weekend and have a sheet of the black textured ABS plastic to make a trim kit with for a sat. receiver. I was wondering what the best type of tool and blade would be to cut this with?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

Is the plastic going to be visible or not seen ?

What shapes and thickness are you cutting ?

Is it a lot of cutting ?

The tool depends on the size of the job. Could be anything from a sheet metal nibbler to a mini-drill.
I am going to be doing a lot of cutting that will be visible for the most part. The sheet of plastic looks like its close to a 1/4".

slightly warm the plastic in the sun (or microwave) and use a very sharp cutter.

Or you could use a dremmel and then finish off with a sharp cutter. If you want to get rid of the "fuzzy" bits, just do a couple of quick passes with a lighter.

Thats how i do it.[:I]
