Hotly debated topic. Many posts regarding this issue on this forum. I do not think there is a "best oil". There are many good quality oils that meet the manufacturers criteria. On my 300SE I use Shell Rotella 15W40 year round and replace the oil between 3K & 4K miles.

same here. except I use Lucas with it. however, some debate the usefulness of it. I used it on my sebring and went 150k and the motor looked and ran as if it was brand new. that says alot. Chrysler leaves a bit to be desired on longevity.

15/40 Rotella or 20 50 is great..however w/ the drop in zinc and phosphate levels I would recommend putting in some additional additives. There was a thread on this just a couple of days ago. If your engine doesn't leak I'd run M1 20/50..It's served me very well in my white and black coupe as well as my AMG. Again, you'll still need to add to what ever oil you choose to run to keep the additive package close to what MB had in mind when they designed our cars. Jonathan

Just wondering which engine you had in your Sebring? I have a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim with 147,000 (Mitsubishi 3.0 V-6) and have religeously had the oil changed at the Chrysler dealer every 3,000 miles. I can't say that it still runs like new, but it "still has plenty of power" according to the tech who always works on it and just test drove it.

He has never recommended any oil additives (he likes BG 44K for the gas however and they make a MOA too), but I have never brought the subject up. There are a few people on here who use, and seem to like, the Lucas products.

a quart a month would make me crazy. It's not unheard of, but not very good either. I don't use any oil. Fortunately, or at least it's less than 1/4 quart every 3k.

Wow, a civilized (to this point) oil thread...

That's a tad light for AZ. Like me you can use 20w 50 year round, that may slow the oil use. A lot of high-speed driving in the heat can cause higher oil consumption as well. Use an OE filter, that's more important then the oil brand, imo.
