Which Mercedes-Benz model is the best example of over-enginnering at its best?
I am not talking about reliability but large amounts of money and time invested to develop a model. Perhaps the one that was the most unnecessarily complex thing.

Thank you for your time and atention.

Unimog.
Imagine how 50 years old vehicles beat the time lapse and are still in high demand today.
The new Brabus version can be parked in any Beverly Hills area.

I’m the second owner of this Mercedes Benz 16-V Cossie! And on my 13 years of ownership. Owned a 1993 190e signature but engine took a dump at 153k. The Cossie is still going strong as ever and the only trips to the shop for fuel and air mixture every two years and valve adjustments. Very minor issues from a 34 year old car. Love the heck out of it. This has got to be the best over engineered car.

My son was fortunate to visit MB museum in Stuttgart and they have some prototypes there, that never went into productions. OVERENGINEERED for common folks :)

The 92-95 W140 (S-Class) had a power rear view mirror (the inside one). Ridiculous, unnecessary feature that broke whenever someone unfamiliar with the car tried to adjust the mirror. The W220's airmatic suspension was a disaster. I talked to a Mercedes mechanic who said the filter for the system was at the end of the circulation flow, so once debris was in it, it would then circulate throughout the system until it reached the filter. He said he asked a Mercedes rep about it, and was told that the system is designed for clean fluid. Brilliant!
