Well done re your oil change... Don't wait another 20,000 km ,,,change oil after 10,000 km if you want to look after the car...especially since it is so easy.
Spark plugs should be changed after 100,000 km.. use NGK Laser iridium .

I didn't know that Mobil oil is expensive in Oz...but what I can do is tell you what we do around here. We see all four seasons in my locale, ranging from -17 Celsius (0 Fahrenheit) to 38 Celsius (100 Fahrenheit). In this locale, 0W-40 is an excellent choice. Also remember that when an engine, and thus its oil, is cold (i. e. at startup), it's going to be thicker. Even 0-weight, the viscosity of 0W-40 when it's cold, is rather thicker than need be, even at temperatures of 38 Celsius, but it's not as thick as 5W-40 and definitely not 10W-40. So, you're fine to use 0W-40 in any climate here on Earth, even Death Valley, USA (hottest recorded temperature in the world).

As @Benzyle mentions, it is important to change your oil every 10,000 km. I do mine every 5,000 miles (8,000 km), and I always use the fleece (white) filter for its somewhat-improved filtering capabilities. Use OEM filters, either Genuine-MB or Mann (Mann makes 'em for MB).
Mobil One 0w-40 costs us about $83 AUD for 5 litres vs ,Shell Helix ultra 5w-40 for about $55 for 5 litres.
Not sure why ,,but Mobil One has always been the most expensive oil you can buy in Australia.
I use Shell mostly ,,,,,sometimes Caltex , Valvoline or Penrite.

Just checked the price of the Total 9000 5W-40 from Midas here in SA. With the current ZAR to Aus$, I paid just over Aus$38.00 (ZAR384.00) so there is at least something automotive in SA that is not a ripoff.

What is the best grade of engine oil for 2003 C320 (W203)? It has just jumped over 200,000 km on the odometer. I used to put Castrol 10-40 Magnatec; now I have been advised for the 20-50 but I am not sure. Please, if anyone can advise, please reply.
My dad used this plan with our 1950 Chev Truck back in the 60's. It was conventional wisdom at the time. And it wasn't even a great idea then.

Question: When is is necessary to replace plugs for the M271 engine?
Every 5 years or 125,000 kilometer. I changed mine for the first time at 5 years and they were difficult to remove. I had to turn them back and forth several times to get them out. I replaced them with oem. As I recall, they had anti seize pre applied.

The "fleece" filter hasn't been available for the M271 engine for at least a decade. You will need to change the oil filter at 5,000 miles (8,000 km) if you're using the service minder.
