I have a little problem where the first half hour or 20 miles of a motorway journey, I have full power and can get up to 110mph very quickly. After that the turbo stops whistling and acceleration is a bit of a chore. This can be cleared by turning the engine off and back on again. I have somewhere here that the little cone air filter in the pipe to the wastgate actuator can become blocked, this I will check. Any other ideas would be welcome.

Sounds like wastegate code I used to have. In my case I had cut in the intercooler hose, that was easy fix.
Read the code to confirm and go from there.

What I forgot to mention, was that I noticed a hiss during boost which has turned into a turbo whistle, which might give clues.

I never hear turbo whistle on MB, although I hear it on Ford.
Fact is that after over 30 years of marriage my hearing is not at its best.

Yupp... looks way worse than mine, where I did not have hole open.
If it took you 20 miles for the code to show, that means you drive with brick under gas pedal. Mine was popping up each time I stepped on it.

I have now sorted this one, a new intercooler hose and Growler is growling like a tiger again and as fast as a cheetah. The hiss and turbo whistle has also completely gone too. Very happy!
