Does anyone know what resistance the original Becker speakers are rated at?

Most replacement speakers are rated at 4 ohm, but some OEM equipment, like BOSE, have speakers rated at 2 ohm, which makes speaker swapping a little challenging.

Hi AxelWulff,

Not real sure if this will translate to an W126 or not, but Becker says 4 ohms impedence for their latest speaker offerings here:

http://www.beckerautosound.com/speakers.html

There is a contact link on the site as well: [email protected]
That is probably why the link I posted doesn't work.

Thanks MBL,

I'm going to buy a cheap 4 ohm pair of speakers at Wal*Mart to test. Who knows, I might prefer them to the Becker.[:D]

Hi AxelWulff,

Cheap WALMART [xx(] speakers?? In your 560SEC ride?? I'm totally shocked!

What happened to Tweeter or some other local quality stereo specialist in your area? You can teach 'em what they need to know about respect for a VERY special vehicle. They will do it.

Moi, MBL, just coming down from 3 1/2 hours in the Valvo 740 with the iPod, feeding a '92 Kenwood with Boston Acoustics 6X9s on the back deck.

MBL,

Watch the blood pressure, I said I was doing it as a test.[:D]

I know Tweeter originated up there in your neck of the woods, but I'm afraid the quality control does not extend down to the Philadelphia area. A visit to the Tweeter store in Haverford did not exactly fill me with confidence. Now, the Tweeter store in Harvard Square is a totally different story. When I shopped there they had excellent customer service and the sales people knew a lot about the equipment they sold. I hope they have kept the standards high.

Anyway, I have found a local dealer for Focal car speakers (Focal JM Lab). They are French (OK shoot me...), but in spite of that they actually perform quite well. I'm going to put in a pair of their 6.5" in the back of my 560 SEC MYSELF.[:)]

Hi Axel,

Yes, the 'Square Tweeter store was great every time I went in there. I was introduced to & acquired a taste for Bang & Olufsen there. [:p]

I still have the stock speakers & a somewhat later Becker G.P. in the 560. I know if I upgraded to more modern & higher quality components, I'd be pleased. I just really like the look of the dash/console area as it is. I'll probably change the exhaust a little for a bit of V8 burble in the Summer

Years ago (10 now), I put a Kenwwood head & 10 CD changer in my 740 Volvo along with some Boston Acoustics 6X9s under the rear shelf. Made big holes! Tweeter, natch. Just Wed. & Thursday I must have put close to 600 miles on the 740 at speed with an iPod hooked to a cassette adapter. Sweet sounds the whole ride(s).

Good luck fitting the speakers & Happy Tunes!

The original becker speakers are quite good but for really good sound you need to add a sub and 6x9's in the rear. The becker speakers have a good midrange and sound full.
